Barack Obama while campaigning for Arizona Democrats Mark Kelly and Katie Hobbs gave his endorsement to the state proposition opening in-state tuition rates to young undocumented immigrants who’ve called the state home. Currently, undocumented students have to pay a 150% tuition rate, even if they grew up in the state.
While the former president cautioned that it’s still ultimately up to Congress to pass permanent relief for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and other young undocumented immigrants, he said that voters in the meantime can vote yes on Proposition 308. The audience loudly cheered as he called it “the right thing to do.”
