Belgian Touring Car team Comtoyou Racing are set to add a GT3 programme with Audi to their 2023 season plans.
Whilst the 2022 TCR Europe title-winning squad will continue to contest multiple TCR Series, they will also expand their Audi Sport Customer racing links to field no fewer than three Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo2s in the 2023 GT World Challenge Europe
“We have been wanting to switch to GT3 for a few years now and Audi has been calling for us to do so,” said Team Principal François Verbist. “After three years of reflection, we thought it was the right time.”
“We have bought three new R8 LMS GT3 Evo IIs and we will be competing in all ten races of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe.
“We will have three cars in the Sprint Cup and two in the Endurance Cup, which also includes the 24 Hours of Spa.
“Everyone knows how competitive this championship is and so the challenge is huge, but we come with a great deal of humility. We know that the car can win and that, like other customers, we can count on the technical support and advice of Audi Sport customer racing. The aim will be to be closer to the best and then aim for the titles in 2024.”
What’s not yet clear is whether the team will retain the services, in TCR, GT3 or both, of their 2022 TCR Europe Champion, Argentina’s Franco Girolami.
Girolami, ranked #1 in the recently released TCR driver rankings, has expressed interest in racing in both Touring cars and GTs in 2023.
He also is known to have tested a Ferrari 488 GT3 with Iron Lynx earlier this year.
“While we all know WTCR disappears next year, my goal is being part of the TCR WORLD TOUR, a series born in 2023 to put together the best drivers in the world. Right now, I don’t have anything confirmed.
There have been some talks for TCR and GT racing, but nothing concrete yet. The next few weeks will be very important regarding my future and making a decision.”
