The Philadelphia Phillies were on the wrong side of history in Game 4 of the 2022 World Series and beloved local gas station chain Wawa may have been the cause.
On Wednesday, the Phillies were no-hit by the Houston Astros in a 5-0 loss which tied the series 2-2. The no-hit loss is just the second in World Series history, joining Don Larsen’s perfect game for the New York Yankees in 1956 in the annals of history. Hilariously enough, the Phillies lackluster hitting performance came just one day after the team tied the World Series single game home run record after mashing five dingers against Houston in Game 3.
So yeah, it’s been a real weird World Series so far.
Things got even stranger when Wawa entered the fray in an effort to promote their ongoing Schwarberfest — the chain’s annual hoagie discount promotion that’s been re-named after Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber. Ahead of Game 4, Wawa made quite the innocuous tweet in an effort to drum up support for the Phillies.

Oh… oh no. That certainly did not age well!
While Wawa rectified their mistake on Thursday morning ahead of Game 5, baseball fans were quick to place the blame for the Phillies’ no-hit night on the beloved convenience store.
