Kamala Harris: Abortion Bans Could Deny Black People the Right to Vote
Kamala Harris spread fear among voters Monday by claiming the overturning of Roe v. Wade could lead to the return of racist Jim Crow laws and the loss of the right to vote.
CNS News reports Harris blasted the U.S. Supreme Court and pro-life advocates during a pro-abortion event in Los Angeles, portraying them as enemies who are coming after Americans’ fundamental rights.
“Everything that you can imagine, you should assume is possible,” Harris said. “It was unimaginable that the court of Thurgood Marshall would do what this court just did, and … everyone is vulnerable to this moment.”
But abortion never was a constitutional right, and the Supreme Court confirmed that in its Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health ruling in June. Abortion is a human rights abuse, and the Roe ruling led to the deaths of 63 million unborn babies in abortions.
The pro-life movement advocates for unborn babies’ right to life, which is a fundamental right and without which no other rights can exist. However, Democrat leaders have been attacking pro-life leaders with false claims about wanting to ban birth control, get rid of voting rights and more.
Harris echoed this fear mongering in her talk Monday, saying: “We thought the issue of voting rights had been settled. Unsettled times. In this year of our Lord 2022, taking away a woman’s ability to make decisions about her own body.”

According to CNS, U.S. Rep. Karen Bass, D California, asked the vice president if she believes the abortion ruling could be a slippery slope that leads to the return of racist Jim Crow laws that targeted African Americans in the south.
“… the Dobbs decision was about the right to privacy and, Madam Vice President, you know, I’m not a lawyer, but I do wonder, how far could they go? I mean, you know, Jim Crow laws? I mean, could business say, ‘Well, it’s my right to only allow certain people to come in’?” Bass asked.
Harris said that could very well happen because democracy is fragile and, if Americans stop fighting to protect it, their rights and freedoms will erode. She said democracy is about lifting people up and defending “human rights.”
“We have to listen to the words of Coretta Scott King [who] famously said: The fight for civil rights — which is the fight for justice, it’s the fight for equality, fight for freedom — the fight for civil rights must be fought and won with each generation, because let’s always remember that these rights will not be permanent if we are not prepared to be vigilant,” Harris said.
However, Harris believes that killing babies in the womb – unique and irreplaceable human beings – is a “human right.”
A bill that President Joe Biden named as his top priority for 2023 would force states to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions for basically any reason through all nine months of pregnancy and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions. It also would jeopardize the rights of doctors and nurses who refuse to abort unborn babies and the rights of parents to make medical decisions involving their underage daughters.
Pro-life advocates have nicknamed the bill the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act, but Democrats named it the Women’s Health Protection Act and claim it would simply “codify Roe.”
Polls consistently show that Americans – including many Democrat voters – support legal protections for unborn babies. Polls show strong public opposition to taxpayer funding for abortions and late-term abortions, and support for laws that protect unborn babies from abortion after the first trimester or once their heart begins to beat. Americans overwhelmingly support parental consent for minors, too.
A 2022 Marist poll found that just 36 percent of Americans believe abortions should be legal without any restrictions. Additionally, 73 percent oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions.
