Kevin & Jan Magnussen To Join Forces Again In Gulf 12 Hours
HAAS F1 Team driver Kevin Magnussen will join his Le Mans-winning father Jan and Mark Kvamme at the Gulf 12 Hours on December 9-11.
The trio will race a MDK Motorsports Ferrari, which is receiving support from AF Corse, at the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli’s season finale.
Magnussen is no stranger to the track, which also hosts the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, while team owner and recently crowned Porsche Carrera Cup North America Am champion Kvamme won the 12 Hours’ Am class in January.
Jan, meanwhile, also raced in F1 but is best known for his success with Corvette at the Le Mans 24 Hours where he won his class four times. He is also a multiple ALMS/IMSA champion with the manufacturer.
The Gulf 12 Hours will be his son’s first-ever GT race, although Kevin and Jan did previously share a High Class Racing LMP2 car at Le Mans in 2021.
“Mark and I met at the Miami Grand Prix weekend and somehow the idea of racing together in Abu Dhabi turned up,” said Kevin. “We called my father – and the team was set. MDK Motorsports is driven by passionate and professional racers, and I enjoy working with these guys. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together. Of course, I’m also extremely grateful to be given another chance of driving together with my father – and hopefully even trying to win a race.”
Kvamme added: “It’s an absolute honour and a privilege for me and everyone at MDK Motorsports to be joined by two legends. Kevin is a superfast and very experienced Formula 1 driver and he’s also an official ambassador for our team. Jan is one of the most winning sports car drivers in the world. Together they bring many years of top-level racing experience to our team. I can’t imagine a better driver line up for our first Gulf 12 Hours attempt as a team.”
It remains to be seen whether MDK’s entry is nominated to score IGTC points by Ferrari. As many as four 488 GT3s can represent the manufacturer, although only three can be drawn from the Pro class.
