“AGE is just a number,” as the old adage goes, but some disagree.
One couple, however, stayed true to the expression and they claim that their love transcends generations.
Nicole Downs is a 22-year-old Michigan-based digital content creator.
She took to TikTok to share the 33 year age difference between her and her 54-year-old boyfriend Michael.
“I promised I won’t tell anyone,” read text over a video of Michael and Downs in a swimming pool, while Downs donned a gold sequin bikini top.
The pair mimed throwing out a lock and key, suggesting that they are going public with their relationship.

The pair met when Michael was 51 years old and Downs was only 18.
“We also have a 33 year age gap,” Downs said.
“We’re happy together despite what other people might think,” she asserted.
“I couldn’t imagine my life if we never met,” Downs wrote over a video of the pair, set to a romantic ballad.

She revealed that the two crossed paths four years ago and connected on a romantic level.
“We started dating in 2018,” she added.
After six months of dating, the two decided to make their relationship much more serious due to their connection.
“Living together for 3.5 years,” she wrote. “Best friends.”
They have also started a small fur family, welcoming a feline into their home.
“We have one cat, Grizzy, together,” she revealed.
“Happier and closer than we’ve ever been,” Downs said of their relationship.
TikTok users did not feel the same as Downs and Michael, and criticized the unusual relationship in the comment section.
“No,” one critic wrote. “That’s just wrong.”
Others supported the unconventional love story.
“Don’t let anyone stop you guys,” a fan wrote. “I can’t believe the negative comments here. As long as you are happy, age doesn’t matter. Love you guys.”
