A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday to mark the beginning of the construction phase of a structure that will be the new home of Bravis Modern Street Food and Badger Hill Brewing in the Southwest Gateway section of Canterbury Commons. Work on the 11,000 square foot brewery, taproom and restaurant will continue through the coming months with a target opening in early summer.
Shakopee Mayor Bill Mars addressed the assembled crowd Monday afternoon, focusing on the local nature of this project that will fit the overall concept of Canterbury Commons, bringing visitors to the community from throughout the region.
Also speaking at the ceremony were Kevin O’Brien, CEO of Greystone Construction, a partner with Canterbury in the development of the Southwest Gateway; Amayrani Melo, owner of Bravis; CEO Michael Koppelman and COO Chris Cole, both of Badger Hill; and Tim Zunker, president of the Shakopee Chamber & Visitors Bureau. In attendance were city officials, council members Angelica Contreras and Jody Brennan, Scott County Commission Mike Beard and State Senator Eric Pratt.
Badger Hill will maintain their current brewery located a mile east of this new site that will house a smaller brewing operation as well as a taproom. Bravis will move from a downtown Shakopee location. The two companies plan to work together to offer entertainment and programming to accompany beer and Mexican food that they are known for, making this new facility a community gathering place.
The structure will be located near the intersection of Shenandoah Drive and Schenian Street. Greystone recently relocated their corporate headquarters to the Southwest Gateway.
