Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen reveals secrets to affordable food shops for her nine kids
OUR Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen has shared her secrets on how she juggles feeding her huge family amid the cost of living crisis.
The TV personality, who recently split from husband of 22 years Clive Owen, has nine mouths to feed as well as her own with their hefty brood of children.
Naturally, this means she has to be super mindful when it comes to spending, getting a weekly shop down to a fine art so they’re not wasteful or overspend.
Speaking to Closer magazine, she explained she spends at least £150 a week, and has become a fan of the marked down section of supermarkets to help her stretch her money further.
She also buys bulk bags of rice and pasta to ensure there’s always something available.
“With a big family, I’ve always been mindful of the cost of food, and I’ve taught them how to cook economically and well.
“My mantra is, look at what you’ve got and make something out of it. Don’t focus on what you haven’t got.”
She added that it helps that living on a farm means certain foodstuffs are already covered, like milk, eggs, and some meats depending on the season.
“At least £150. Our nearest supermarkets are 30 miles away from our farm. I’m a devil for the marked down section,” she added.
The Channel 5 favourite became a household name thanks to opening her home to cameras – sharing life with her now estranged husband as well as children Raven, Reuben, Miles, Edith, Violet, Sidney, Annas, Clemmie, and Nancy.
She and Clive announced their split in June this year, saying in a statement: “Clive and I are sad to confirm that we have made the difficult decision to separate.
“This hasn’t been easy, but we both believe it’s the right choice for the future of our family.”
Speaking to ITV‘s Lorraine show in September, the farmer told presenter Christine Lampard: “It is really tough and it is a really difficult aspect of it to get across.

“But when you do reality [TV] it has to be just that. That means it covers the ups and downs and that can be on any level.”
“Life carries on on the farm,” she explained. “Obviously there is a whole raft of things to do – nine children, a whole heap of animals.
“We are just working away same as before.
“Because at the end of the day our priority remains, of course, to keep everything going. There you go, that’s how it is.”
Since then she has landed a series of spin-offs to Our Yorkshire Farm, and has been keeping fans updated with the family via her social media posts.
Her latest book has also become a Sunday Times bestseller.
