The Telegraph have revealed that Aston Villa will make an ambitious move for Mauricio Pochettino if they sack Steven Gerrard over the coming days.
Although Pochettino failed to win trophies at Tottenham, his five-and-a-half-year spell at the North London club is seen as a success, with the Argentine helping the Lilywhites challenge for the Premier League title on two occasions and taking them to the Champions League final in 2019.
The 50-year-old has been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season, and he is now thought to be the number one candidate on Villa’s wishlist.
The Telegraph explain that Gerrard has two more games to save his job, with the Villans set to take on Fulham and Brentford over the coming days.
Should the Midlands club sack the former Liverpool midfielder, it is said that they will make an ambitious attempt to convince Pochettino to take over.
The report adds that Villa will face a huge task to convince the former Spurs manager to take the job. It is suggested that the club will be prepared to wait for Pochettino should he be reluctant to make an immediate commitment.

There is no doubt that the Villa owners are extremely ambitious and Pochettino might believe he could have a transformative effect on the club, just as he did at Spurs. However, given the standing that the Argentine now has in his game, I think it would make sense for him to wait for a bigger job, like the Juventus one, to open up.
