Accept cookies? Amazon’s iPad gaffe takes the biscuit
Oh crumbs… a man who bought a £569 iPad from Amazon was sent a box of Cadbury Cookies instead.
And Carl Harper says the online retail giant hasn’t given him a refund.
He had a crunch something wasn’t right when the package arrived and seemed ‘really light’. ‘As I opened it up, out fell a box of cookies,’ said the 43-year-old from Sheffield, who had paid £113.80 up front. ‘I shot out the front door to chase the Amazon guy, but he’d long gone.’
He called the retailer to report the error and was told to send the £1 box of biscuits back so a refund could be issued. But two weeks later, Amazon sent the parish councillor a message saying he would be charged four more monthly £113.80 payments.
Worse still, they failed to send an iPad, so he crumbled and bought one from a high street store.
‘I phoned Amazon back and was told the complaint wasn’t registered properly. A week later, still nothing,’ he said. ‘They were saying once they received the cookies they would deal with the complaint. I sent them back on October 7 and I’ve still had no response. It’s put me off shopping there.’
Amazon last night vowed to ‘make things right’ and refund Mr Harper within seven days.
