History made as Dineen trio follow in the footsteps of Milne brothers

on Saturday 1st October 2022; Billy, Charlie and Danny Dineen all played together for the first time at Goldenacre.

In 1992, the Livingstone brothers played together for the Heriot’s Men 1st. Douglas, Michael (AKA Sumo) and Graham, were part of the forward pack that played away against Portobello at Cavalry Park.

The last time three brothers played together at Goldenacre was when Milne brothers, Iain ‘Bear’, Kenny and David, made a formidable Heriot’s front row in the 80s.

With Billy at number 8, Danny playing hooker and Charlie a fullback, after one game the brothers have already noticed the advantages of playing together.

‘‘It was one of my main reasons for joining the club and it’s an honour not many get to enjoy with one sibling let alone two,’’ Billy said, after recently joining the club from Stirling County.

‘‘It was a proud moment to become a part of Heriot’s Rugby Club history as three brothers wearing the strip together and I know my parents were super proud watching the three of us play together.”

The club has many examples of brothers playing side by side, according to Heriot’s Rugby Club President, Colin McCallum.

“The Club has been fortunate to have other sets of three brothers. Those who spring to mind are the McDougall’s (Dave, Ally and Hamish), the Rafferty’s (Kevin, Mark and Steve) and of course the Burnett’s (Jim, Robbie and Harry),’’ he said.

‘‘All players have made a significant impact on the club and I am sure the Dineen brothers will follow suit. After all, who can forget Danny’s last gasp try at Biggar last season, the defining moment in our National League Division 1 success!”
