Bill.Com Changes Name to ‘BILL’ Following Rebrand

Billing software firm Bill.com has rechristened itself BILL as it updates the look and feel of its brand.

“BILL is rooted in our heritage,” Sarah Acton, the firm’s chief marketing officer, wrote in a blog post Tuesday (Oct. 11). “When our CEO, René Lacerte, founded the company, he wanted the name to reflect our support for both people that bill and those that pay bills. Evolving our name to BILL is simple, and it’s also how we are often referred to colloquially. Making this shift now feels right.”

Based in San Jose, BILL offers solutions such as automated bill payments (which can route clients’ bills to save time), several flexible payment options such as same- or next-day payments, and a single platform that can be accessed from any device.

In addition to the new name, Acton said BILL is conducting a company rebrand, “modernizing the look and feel of our brand to create a more engaging experience, and to honor and celebrate the contribution of [small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs)] to our communities and economies.”

In August, PYMNTS singled out BILL as an example of how the automated billing trend marched on even as the pandemic shifted.

During the company’s fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call, management noted that 400,000 businesses were using the company’s product, three times the number of users from last year.

Lacerte pointed to one customer who saved 10 hours per week paying hundreds of bills each month by eliminating the manual processes — writing checks, attaching stamps and sealing envelopes — before turning to BILL.

He added that the company anticipates robust growth among SMBs that want to do more with less in the face of rising prices and a potential recession.

“There are more than 30 million small businesses in the U.S. and 70 million globally, and the majority still use manual, paper-based processes,” Lacerte said at the time.
