Report: 49ers’ Emmanuel Moseley has torn ACL, is out for season
The 49ers got the news they expected when it was learned cornerback Emmanuel Moseley has a torn ACL, will have surgery and is out for the season.
The report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the worst fears of coach Kyle Shanahan, who sounded after Sunday’s 37-15 win over the Carolina Panthers like he knew it was coming.
An MRI confirmed that 49ers’ CB Emmanuel Moseley tore his ACL on Sunday and he now will have season-ending knee surgery, per source.

“We’re worried about an ACL, but we can’t confirm that. … Out there, it (wasn’t good). We’ll see when we get the MRI,” Shanahan said.
The 49ers coach is scheduled to speak reporters on a conference call this afternoon. Presumably he will also have an update on edge rusher Nick Bosa, who sat out most of the second half with a groin injury, as well as place kicker Robbie Gould, who hurt his left leg defending a kickoff return.
Moseley played 57 snaps against Carolina and earlier in the game scored his first NFL touchdown with a 41-yard interception return against Baker Mayfield. In tandem with free agent signee Charvarius “Mooney” Ward, the 49ers were getting some of the best outside cornerback play in the NFL.
Cornerbacks who could step into the starting role include rookie Samuel Womack III, Ambry Thomas and eventually Jason Verrett when he’s cleared from an ACL injury of his own sustained during the 2021 season opener. Verrett returned to practice last week from the physically unable to perform list.
