Former Government Official Killed in Northern Afghanistan
The former Education Manager for the Faizabad district of Jawzjan province in northern Afghanistan and his son were shot and killed by unidentified men, local Taliban officials said.
The former Education Manager, Abdul Matin, and his son were the targets of unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle, in the Bala Mardian village of Faizabad district on Sunday, October 9, according to local Taliban officials.
After shooting Abdul Matin and his son, the attackers managed to flee the scene, according to Bismillah Nusrat, the Taliban’s Director of Information and Culture for the province of Jawzjan.
The Taliban official continued by saying that it was still unclear what led to or motivated the killing of the former education manager. To find the offenders and enforce the law, the relevant security officials are looking into the matter.
Earlier, unidentified assailants shot and killed a former government military officer in Tarinkot city, the provincial capital of Uruzgan in central Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, a Taliban official was also assassinated in the northern Afghan province of Faryab earlier this week as he was on his way to his house. Unknown armed men killed Abdul Rahman Munawar, the Taliban Head of Economy for Faryab province.
The Taliban has claimed to have established and maintained security in Afghanistan. However, since the group seized control last year, crimes have increased, and even Taliban officials are vulnerable to becoming victims.
