Schoolboy ends up trapped under car after crossing road on scooter
A 10-year-old has suffered horrendous injuries in a crash with a car while riding his scooter across a road in Wales.
Leo Penson, from Pembrokeshire, is ‘lucky to be alive’ after getting trapped underneath a Skoda during the scary incident around 7pm on Friday.
Rescue workers used a jack to free him on Bush Street in Pembroke Dock.
The schoolboy was airlifted to University Hospital of Wales where he is still being treated.
Revealing the extensive list of injuries Leo suffered, family friend Gem Louise Phillips said: ‘Leo has five dislodged broken ribs, three fractured ribs, a punctured lung caused by the dislodged broken ribs, and he’s also broken all of his right side with two broken bones in his right leg which means he is going to be plastered from hip to ankle.
‘We also understand that he has suffered bruising to his intestines.’
A JustGiving fundraiser has been created to help relieve some of the financial stress for his family.
Gem said: ’There’s no doubt that Leo is very lucky to be alive but we’re still unsure how long he is going to be in hospital for.
‘We’re just asking people to donate whatever they can, no matter how big or small, as I know it’s going to mean the world to him and his family at this hard time.’
Dyfed-Powys Police says the Pembrokeshire Roads Policing unit is investigating the collision.
A statement read: ‘The child sustained serious injuries and was conveyed to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff by air ambulance where they remain in a stable condition.’
