Season Series:
Oct. 8th vs. Victoria, 6:00 pm
Last Game: The Vipers were victorious for the second time in as many games as they held on for a 6-5 win over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. At one point the Vipers had a 4-1 lead but had to continue to fend off flurries of Salmon Arm offense. The Backs were able to get the game within a goal late in regulation, but the Vipers were able to secure the victory.
Four different Vipers had two-point nights as the offense was spread around. Kurt Gurkan and David Brandes registered their first BCHL goals.
The Vipers PK was a perfect 4 for 4, now sitting 2nd in the BCHL. Their powerplay was also superb racking up three goals propelling them to 5th best in the BCHL.
Tonight’s Game: This is the first and only meeting of the season between the Vipers and Grizzlies. Last year it was the Grizzlies winning 6-5 in overtime on a Matthew Wood goal on the powerplay.
Victoria Grizzlies
GM & Head Coach: Rylan Ferster
2022-23: GP 5 1-3-0-1, 7th Coastal Conference
Home: 1-1-0-1
Away: 0-2-0-0
Goals For: 8
Goals Against: 14
Powerplay: 0 for 8 – 0.0% (18th in BCHL)
Penalty Kill: 16 of 19 – 84.2% (7th in BCHL)
Last Game: The Grizzlies were on the wrong end of a 3-1 score in Prince George last night. Jack Gorton had the lone goal in defeat. Oliver Auyeung-Ashton was very good in goal stopping 32 of 34. Victoria was 0 for 2 on the powerplay and is averaging less than 2 opportunities per game. Their PK killed off 2 of 3.
Tonight’s Game: The Grizzlies are being led offensively by 18 year old Reegan Hiscock. He has 2 goals and 1 assist. They’re looking for a little consistency in the offensive department as they sit near the bottom in Goals For. Defensively they’ve been pretty stingy surrendering less than 3 goals per game.
