My husband says we can’t afford to turn the heating on, but he always spends a fortune on boozy nights out – I’m fuming
A FRUSTRATED woman shared that her husband claimed they couldn’t afford to put the heating on but still spent a load of money on a night out.
With the cost of living crisis and soaring energy bills the couple were feeling the pinch, so her husband kicked up a fuss when she tried to heat the house.
But the woman was fuming when he didn’t cut down on his spending at the pub and on long lunches at work.
Taking to Mumsnet, she said: “[My husband] is very much of the ‘put on another jumper’ type.
“PS I’m already wearing one, thick socks and slippers in the house, on occasion a jacket.
“All on the pretence that we need to be cautious with bills etc.

“But I feel like this is the only area of his life he is frugal with.
“Meanwhile he pays for rounds of drinks after work, going out for lunch everyday when working in the office, whilst I suppose my work doesn’t have that culture.

“I suppose my argument is, well maybe if you didn’t spend all that money on beers/took a pack lunch to work every once in a while then we could put the heating on.
“So that I’m not sitting working from home with a hot water bottle.”

She asked fellow Mumsnet users for their advice as she felt resentful of her partner’s priorities.
One person said: “Don’t you pay for the heating too? If you want to put it on just put it on, I wouldn’t be asking permission in my own home, why do you think this is his decision to make?”
Another said: “Just turn the heating on and explain to him that if he’s worried about money he needs to cut right down on buying other people drinks. He is being an idiot.”
A third said: “You need to discuss budget and priorities.
“I don’t mind layering up when I’m alone working from home but will not have it cold here when my kids are here.”
But not everyone agreed with the frustrated woman.
