Washington Sundar To Replace Deepak Chahar For IND vs SA ODI Series

Ranchi: Team India as reached Ranchi for the second ODI match as they try to level the series by 1-1 after losing the first match by 9 runs at the hand of Temba Bavuma-led Proteas side. The Men in Blue dealt with another huge blow as ace player Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the series due to twisted ankle. There’s no update yet on whether he would be flying to Australia or not but it is surely a really big blow. He has been replaced by all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Chahar missed out on the first ODI against Proteas due to the same injury, he was affected by it during the practice session before the Lucknow ODI, and now his getting ruled out completely is a big blow for the host side. However, Washington Sundar who is also making his return following an injury can be a suitable replacement.

“Deepak has sustained a twisted ankle but it’s not too serious. However a few days of rest might be advisable,” a source privy to selection issues, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“So it will be team management’s call if they would like to risk Deepak as he is on T20 World Cup standby list. In any case, if there is a requirement there, it would be a priority.”

Deepak Chahar being ruled out is definitely a huge blow but hopefully, he would recover in time to fly for Australia as he is not yet to be ruled out from the stand-by players’ list for the T20 World Cup.
