Journalist suggests Spurs could look at £60m playmaker next summer
Tottenham Hotspur could look to step up their interest in Leicester City’s James Maddison next summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Tottenham were linked with a move for the England international during the summer transfer window with Alasdair Gold revealing the north Londoners have a long-standing interest in the 25-year-old (Football.London).
Antonio Conte’s side decided against bringing in a creative influence ahead of the new campaign with Christian Eriksen having joined Manchester United and at times they have looked short of ideas to unlock the opposition defence.
Maddison was also said to have been on the radar of Newcastle United with the Magpies reported to have had bids of £40million and £50million rejected (Sky Sports).
The midfielder was in impressive form against Nottingham Forest on Monday night where he scored a brace against the Premier League newcomers.
O’Rourke believes that the January window could prove to be too difficult to a deal over the line.
He told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s a hard deal to do in January, but it’s one to maybe keep an eye on next summer, especially if Leicester are struggling at the wrong end of the table.
“Spurs, I’m sure, will be among a number of clubs looking at Maddison.”

Newcastle will likely want to revisit their interest in Maddison at the end of the campaign having already shown their intent to spend big on the playmaker.
