Report: Spurs-linked Nicolo Zaniolo may soon have a release clause

Calciomercato have claimed that Nicolo Zaniolo, who Tottenham reportedly tried to sign during the summer transfer window, is on the verge of signing a new contract with AS Roma.

Zaniolo was linked with a move to Spurs all through the summer transfer window (CalcioMercato) but the winger ended up staying put at the Stadio Olimpico.

Corriere dello Sport even suggested a couple of weeks ago that the Italy international was tempted by the idea of moving to the North London club.

The 23-year-old’s current contract at the Italian capital runs until 2024 and 90 min reported last month that the Giallorossi were not willing to offer the player the pay rise he was demanding.

However, if CalcioMercato’s latest update is to be believed, Zaniolo is now expected to sign a new deal in the Italian capital.

It is explained that the winger’s agent Claudio Vigorelli has met with Roma director Tiago Pinto to discuss a new contract.

The report adds that a ‘basis of an agreement was found’ between the two parties on a deal worth around €4m per year (£3.5m), with the contract expected to have a release clause of around €50m-€60m (£43.9m-£52.7m).

Spurs Web Opinion 

We know that both Conte and Paratici are both fans of Zaniolo, and so, if there is a release clause of around £45m on his contract, the North London club might be tempted to activate it. 

I would not be totally surprised if Spurs reignite their interest in the Roma star in January, especially since Bryan Gil will likely be loaned out.
