Cadillac topped the times in Free Practice 1 ahead of Saturday’s scheduled Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta as the #02 DPi V.R of Earl Bamber put in an early session 1:09.583, 3 tenths up on the faster of the Acuras in the session, the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05 of Tom Blomqvist.
Sebastien Bourdais led a train of three other Cadillacs in third with the #01 Cadillac Racing machine ahead of the #31 Action Express car of Pipo Derani and Kamui Kobayashi in the #47 Ally/ Action Express car.
The #8 Tower Motorsport Oreca, in the hands of Louis Deletraz, led LMP2 with a 1:11.320, a couple of tenths up on the #81 DragonSpeed car of Sebastian Montoya with Ryan Dalziel a further tenth back in the #18 Era Motorsport car.
In trouble in the session was the #52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports of Scott Huffaker, tagging the wall at T4 and bringing out a red Flag mid-session.
LMP3 was led by Colin Braun’s #54 CORE Autosport Ligier JS P320 (1:15.676) with the #74 Riley Motorsports Ligier of Felipe Fraga just 15 thousandths off that time.
GTD Pro saw the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus of Ben Barnicoat top the times with his 1:19.384 enough to fend off a chasing pack of GTD class machines, no fewer than five of them bettering the next best GTD Pro effort, that coming from Matt Campbell in the #9 Pfaff Porsche, half a second off Barnicoat’s best.
Bryan Sellers topped the GTD pack in the #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 with a lap in 1:19.500 that topped a quintet of quick laps separated by just three tenths of a second, all ahead of Campbell’s second best in GTD Pro time.
