Under the trilateral AUKUS pact unveiled last September, the US and the UK would supply high-end technology to Australia so that it can develop advanced nuclear submarines of its own. Critics of AUKUS have decried that Australia will operate nuclear subs despite being a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
