Report: Spurs have tried to sign Spaniard on multiple occasions over last 18 months 

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have made multiple attempts to sign Adama Traore from Wolves since Antonio Conte arrived at the club.

Reports during the January transfer window indicated that Spurs were keen on snapping up Traore and converting him into a right wing-back but Barcelona beat out the North London club to the winger’s signature (ESPN), with the Catalan giants signing the player on loan with an option to buy.

However, the pacy winger did not get much game time at Camp Nou during the second half of last season, and Barca did not take up the option to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer window.

Traore was linked with a move to Spurs once again this summer, with rumours suggesting that Conte’s men were looking to sign the player on a cut-price deal as he was into the final year of his contract at the Molineux Stadium (Express).

However, the 26-year-old stayed put at Wolves over the summer and Bruno Lage has talked up the possibility of the winger becoming a key player for the club this season (Express and Star).

The Athletic have now confirmed that Spurs did indeed seriously consider Traore as an option for the right wing-back role over recent transfer windows.

The report suggests that the Lilywhites tried to sign the Wolves star ‘frequently’ over the last 18 months.

If Traore does not sign a new deal at Wolves, the possibility of Spurs trying to sign him on a cut-price fee in January, or on a free transfer next summer, cannot be ruled.

Paratici and Conte appear to be fans of the winger, and not only can he be an option at wing-back but he can perhaps be a decent impact substitute off the bench if we are chasing a game.
