VOTE: Southern California Girls Athlete of the Week, September 23

Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.

Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.

Click on the newspaper links below the athlete’s name to read about their performance from last week, and then vote for who you think deserves the top honor.

Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Voting ends at midnight, but final totals aren’t always immediately reflected due to processing.

Chase Koepke, Los Alamitos: The opposite hitter recorded a combined 19 kills and six blocks in three-set victories against Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar and helped the Griffins finish 5-2 in the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas.

Fatimah Hall, Lakewood:  The setter had 24 assists, five digs and five kills in a 3-0 win over Wilson last week that kept Lakewood in first place in the Moore League standings. Hall also helped the Lancers, who are undefeated in league play, beat Millikan 3-0. Hall’s leadership propelled Lakewood to finish 11th out of 64 teams in the prestigious Durango Fall Classic tournament in Las Vegas.

Mia Delahoussaye, South Hills: The Huskies had a big week and their senior leader, Delahoussaye, led the way. The Huskies won Hacienda League matches against Los Altos (3-1), Wilson (3-0) and Walnut (3-1) to take over sole possession of first place. Delahoussaye had 18 kills, nine digs and two aces against Walnut. The Huskies (9-3-2, 3-0) are ranked No. 10 in CIF-SS Division 4.

Grace Hazelton, El Camino Real: Hazelton was the catalyst for El Camino Real’s two West Valley League victories last week. She tallied 22 kills and four aces in a five-set win over Granada Hills Charter and added 11 kills and five aces in a sweep of Cleveland.

Isabella Ly, Roosevelt: Ly shot rounds of 36 or better in consecutive matches at Goose Creek Golf Club in Jurupa Valley to lead the Mustangs to four Big VIII League victories over a span of eight days. Ly began that impressive run with a 2-under-par 33 against Corona. She followed up with scores of 35 (vs. Norco), 36 (vs. King) and 35 (vs. Santiago). Ly captured the Big VIII League’s individual championship last season.

Tanon Rosenthal, Mira Costa: Rosenthal had six kills in a three-set sweep of Peninsula. She followed that with 24 kills, five blocks and eight digs in a five-set win over Palos Verdes.
