Will trains run on Monday? Travel plans for Queen’s funeral
With the funeral of the Queen on Monday, September 19, the capital will surely be the busiest it’s been in some time.
Monday has been declared a bank holiday, and already plenty of shops and more will be closed for the day (though many pubs are staying open!).
If you’re planning on travelling into London to witness history, will trains still be running?
Here’s what we know about travel plans for Monday.
Are trains running on the Queen’s funeral?
Yes, trains will be running on Monday 19 September with a normal timetable expected.
Jason Webb, the Rail Delivery Group’s Customer Information Director, has said: ‘On the day of the funeral, people should plan carefully the timing of their journey home as trains and stations are likely to be extremely busy.’
‘It will not be possible to view both the funeral in London and travel to Windsor, where Her Majesty the Queen will be laid to rest. People should plan to view one or the other and allow plenty of time to travel to either location.’
‘Trains to and from London are expected to be busy until the funeral, and to and from Windsor on Monday.’
Queuing systems may be implemented at stations when overcrowded.
Furthermore, some train companies are providing limited extra services during and after the funeral – Southeastern and South Western Railway are two stations who have confirmed a limited number of extra trains running throughout the night.

It’s advisable to keep checking your routes to see if any services are affected or added as National Rail have confirmed that plans are on-going.
In a statement, they said: ‘We are working with our partners to review arrangements to get people to view the funeral where possible and where there is capacity.’
