Report: Paratici wants to hire talent spotter who scouted Modric and Mbappe

According to the print edition of Secolo XIX (10/09/22 – as relayed by TMW), Tottenham Hotspur want to appoint Riccardo Pecini, who has resigned from his role as Spezia’s chief operating officer.

Paratici has revamped Tottenham’s scouting and recruitment departments this summer following the departures of both Steve Hitchen and Brian Carey.

Spurs snapped up Gretar Steinsson from Everton, with the former Bolton right-back taking over as the North London club’s new performance director.

The Lilywhites have also poached Andy Scoulding from Rangers, with the 40-year-old expected to spearhead the identification of British talent (Football.London).

If the latest reports from Italy are to be believed, Paratici may have one more move up his sleeve, with Spurs’ managing director of football said to be pursuing another talent spotter in the form of Pecini.

According to The Athletic, former Tottenham sporting director Damien Comolli hired Pecini to scout Italy and Central Europe for the Lilywhites, with the Italian recommending the signing of Modric to the club back in 2008. 

The Athletic claim that the 44-year-old is also the man who identified Kylian Mbappe during his spell as Monaco’s technical director.

Secolo XIX assert that Paratici has already spoken to Pecini about joining him at Tottenham following his departure from Spezia a few days ago.

Spurs do not have the resources to go toe-to-toe in the transfer market with the likes of Man City and Chelsea.

So, our best chance of competing with these teams over the long term is to improve our recruitment and identify players before they become superstars. 

It looks like Paratici is determined to ensure that Spurs’ scouting department is one of the best in the world.
