William ‘invited Harry and Meghan to view flowers at Windsor by text’
Prince William sent a last minute text inviting Harry and Meghan to thank wellwishers and view floral tributes outside Windsor Castle, reports say.
It is thought the Prince of Wales was acting alone, not on instructions from King Charles III, as was previously thought.
The two couples were reunited together on Saturday for the first time since 2020.
All four were dressed in black as they spent 40 minutes shaking people’s hands, observing the tributes and talking to mourners outside the castle.
A source told the Daily Mail: ‘It happened very quickly – remarkable really considering they didn’t see each other in Scotland.
‘These coming days are going to be extremely intense and getting through them without distraction can only be a good thing.’
Suggestions that William made the move after hearing Harry was planning to undertake his own walkabout with a film crew were ‘complete b******s’, the paper was told.
It is thought William already reached the decision of reaching out to his younger brother before texting him.
Wellwishers spoke of their delight at seeing the fab four finally reunited during the nation’s period of mourning.
The reunion came as a surprise following the two brother’s strained relationship since the Sussexes left their official roles in the royal family.
Sadly for the two siblings, they did not make it in time to see the Queen before she died in Balmoral.
Meghan and Kate did not join their husbands in the dash to visit the Queen on her deathbed.
The Duke of Sussex’s private plane did not get to Aberdeenshire until a few hours after the Queen’s death.
He also did not join his brother and father at the King’s Birkhall home on Thursday evening, but instead chose to remain at Balmoral with Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Princess Anne.
An insider said: ‘Two dinners were being hosted on the royal estate that night and there was a clear divide: One was for the new king and his heir, the other was for the rest of the family.’
