I’m an interior expert – the color you shouldn’t use when decorating as it makes your home look tacky
WHEN choosing your home’s color scheme, there are design elements to consider that can make a huge difference in its appearance.
An interior expert has shared what color you should avoid using in your home – as it may make it look tacky – and the color to go for instead.
“The ultimate debate – we’re going to settle it now – between brass and gold in your house,” interior designer Phoenix Grey began in a TikTok video.
“Don’t get me wrong, I am a big brass lover, it could look so classic and so timeless when used correctly. [But] we’re going to look at the difference between the two.”
Grey explained that brass has more of an orange undertone to it, while gold is usually not brushed, has more of a satin finish, and appears very yellow.
He described brass as more “classic and muted” and said that gold has a “high shine finish” which makes it appear “very tacky.”
Speaking on his preference for brass over gold, Grey said: “It’s giving very ‘I want a luxury home, but I don’t know what I’m doing.’ Versus the brass [which is] much more simple, much more muted – quiet. Still gives you that warmth.”
Grey noted that if brass is out of your price range, champagne gold is a good alternative. The champagne tones down the yellow so that it’s more muted, and it’s more affordable in comparison to brass.
He also urged viewers to remember that moderation is key when using accents, and large amounts of any color can make the home look tacky.
