Harry Kane responds to Sherwood’s ‘sign a new contract’ at Spurs comments
Harry Kane gave a diplomatic answer when Tim Sherwood told the Tottenham striker on Sunday that he would have to sign a new contract with the North London club in order to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record.
Kane has enjoyed a fast start to the season, having found the back of the net four times in his four matches so far.
The striker has now taken his tally in the Premier League to 187 goals – the joint third most in the competition’s history along with former Manchester United striker Andy Cole, with just Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer now ahead of him (Premierleague.com).
The 29-year-old is now into the final two years of his contract at Spurs and when Conte was asked about the striker signing a new deal, the Italian admitted that while everyone wants the England captain to stay in N17, the decision is down to Kane (Football.London).
Sherwood cheekily suggested to Kane following Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest that he should sign a new contract and the striker responded by saying he was happy at the club.
The former interim Spurs head coach told PL Productions (28/08/22 at 6:50 pm): “You have gone level with Andy Cole and you are chasing Wayne Rooney. One step at a time.
“It looks like you are going to do it. But you might have to sign a new contract at Tottenham to be able to achieve it.”
Kane responded: “I am feeling good. It has been a good start to the season. Of course, I want to score in every game and see where I can get on that list, for sure.
“The most important thing is about trying to win for the team and we have had a great start to the season. I just have to continue what I am doing. We have another big game in midweek, and hopefully, we can keep this winning streak up.”

There is no doubt that Kane has completely bought into Conte’s project and is enjoying his football at Spurs. However, after the events of last summer, I do not think the striker will be in a hurry to sign a new deal.
His next contract is likely to be the final big one of his career and he might want to see how Tottenham get on this season and perhaps make a decision midway into the campaign, possibly after the World Cup.
