Ahead of his final show on BBC Radio 1 today, Scott Mills paid tribute to the various teams who have worked behind the scenes with him over the last 24 years.
Following his decision to move to Radio 2 back in July, Scott has spent his last few weeks with co-host Chris Stark reminiscing on fond memories, most of which included the close-knit team.
Posting on Instagram, he explained that radio is intimate and personal, with everyone feeling they are all mates.
“That is the radio I’ve always wanted to create,” he wrote. “But behind the scenes there are so many immensely talented and creative people who love radio as much as I do. Like REALLY love it. And they deserve as much (I actually think more) credit than me.”
Sharing a few photos of his teams over the years, Scott continued: “The various teams I’ve been lucky enough to work with over 24 years work HARD. This is not a 9-5 job. The show you hear would not even be half as good without these talented people.
“I think that a show really needs one thing to function properly. And that is treating each other well and working together. It’s a shared love of making each show the best you can make it.”
He praised the team for always being positive, saying yes instead of no, with little if any conflict and acknowledged the “amazing team spirit”.
Ending his post, Scott said: “To all of the truly brilliant people who have worked on this show over the last 24 years, Thankyou SO much. I literally couldn’t have done it without you.”
A short while into the show today there was an emotional moment for Scott and Chris when a host of fellow presenters and celebrities paid tribute:

If that wasn’t enough, Scott was shocked to learn that the studio where he normally broadcast his show from, had been named after him during the show.

Both Scott and Chris made very emotional speeches at the end of the show, reflecting and saying their goodbyes. Chris chose to play Dry Your Eyes by The Streets and Scott played Christine Aguileria’s Beautiful. The pair then expressed their love for each other and their listeners, then played the show’s final song, One Directions Night Changes.
