Italian journalist Paolo Condo has criticised Tottenham Hotspur for the way they treated Tanguy Ndombele, labelling them as spoiled ‘rich kids’.
Ndombele has left Tottenham to join Napoli on an initial one-year loan deal for a fee of £840,000 with an option to make it permanent for around £25million (Fabrizio Romano).
Antonio Conte had already considered Ndombele to be out of his plans for the future (Evening Standard), which eventually led to a loan exit for Tottenham’s record signing.
The French midfielder was also out of favour last season as he returned to Olympique Lyonnais temporarily in the January window (Sky Sports).
Ndombele joined Tottenham from Lyon for £55 million back in 2019 (Daily Mail), and also remains the club’s joint-highest earner alongside Harry Kane with a salary package of £200,000-per-week (Spotrac).
Condo has urged Serie A clubs to sign good players who are underperforming at their current clubs, using Ndombele and Romelu Lukaku as examples to make his case.
The journalist also hit out at the likes of Tottenham for buying up the best toys and then throwing them away soon after like ‘capricious’ ‘rich kids’.
Speaking to Tutto Napoli, Condò said: “Ndombele at Napoli? He failed at Tottenham. Serie A needs to go and rediscover players we know are strong, but who have failed at their clubs.
“Rich kids have come along and bought all the best toys that were in the window, but rich kids are also capricious and maybe the next year they don’t want those toys anymore.
“So, we with great humility go and take these thrown-away toys, put a patch on them, and treat them with more affection. This includes Romelu Lukaku.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Conte and other managers have many opportunities to Ndombele to prove his worth but he failed to take them time and time again. The Frenchman is responsible for his downfall due to his reaction against Morecambe last season, and the general lack of work rate throughout his Spurs career.
