Manchester United entertain arch-rivals Liverpool in today’s late Premier League kick-off at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have made a horrendous start to the campaign with back-to-back losses against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. They suffered a shock 4-0 defeat in west London last weekend.
In response to that result, manager Erik ten Hag made his players to engage in an extra running session, and he will be hoping for a better reply from his team against Jurgen Klopp’s side this evening.
The odds are definitely stacked against United based on recent meetings. The Red Devils have lost their last three encounters versus Liverpool, conceding four or more goals in each of those occasions.
Formation: 4-3-3
Predicted Line-up:
David de Gea had a horrendous outing against Brentford last time around. His poor shot-stopping contributed to the opening goal. For the second, Christian Eriksen was displaced in his own box after a poor choice of pass from the Spaniard. Despite this, Ten Hag has given his backing to the 31-year-old, and he is expected to continue between the sticks.
The defence should see a couple of changes from the Brentford humbling. Diogo Dalot seems an undisputed starter at right-back, having played 90 minutes in both fixtures thus far.
However, there is the possibility of Harry Maguire being dropped with Raphael Varane coming in for his first start of the campaign, We fancy the Frenchman to partner Lisandro Martinez.
At left-back, Tyrell Malacia could be set for his full United debut ahead of Luke Shaw. Malacia is strong defensively compared to Shaw, and he could be tasked with keeping Mohamed Salah quiet.
In front of the backline, we fancy Fred to continue from the holding midfield position. The Brazilian has been far from his best, but remains the best option until Casemiro becomes available for selection.
Instead of fielding another holding midfielder, we anticipate Ten Hag to continue with his creative duo of Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes, though they may have added defensive responsibilities.
Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are very much undisputed starters in the wide attacking positions. Cristiano Ronaldo looks on course to lead the line ahead of Martial, who may be short of match fitness.
Anthony Martial has just returned to training after a hamstring injury, but may not be risked from the XI.
