‘Struggled in the first half’ – Conte believes he saw player of old with second half effort
Antonio Conte has admitted that he has seen signs of the Ivan Perisic of old following Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Conte named the Croatian in his starting eleven for the Premier League fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this afternoon in place of Ryan Sessegnon, who dropped down to the bench.
Perisic has been stepping up his fitness gradually after suffering a broken ankle in early February while still at Inter Milan.
Conte offered a frank assessment of the 33-year-old’s performance against Wolves in which he claimed Perisic struggled during the first half, but showed a marked improvement after the break in which he suggested he had seen the player who performed so well at Inter.
Perisic played a key role in Tottenham breaking the deadlock when he headed on Heung-min Son’s corner kick to allow Harry Kane to nod home from close range to secure a crucial victory.
Conte said during his post-match press conference as reported by Jonathan Veal on Twitter: “It was the same for the rest of the team, he struggled in the first half. In the second half in the rest of them, he was better. I have seen the Ivan Perisic I know from Inter.”

Perisic was one of Tottenham’s brightest players and his quality showed during the second half where he provided a good attacking outlet to the team having caused some problems down the left.
The Croatian is returning from a nasty injury and he looked to be in a little discomfort before being replaced by Ryan Sessegnon late in the game.
