Suspect charged after girl, 6, ‘snatched from the street and sexually assaulted’
A suspect has been charged after a schoolgirl was allegedly snatched and sexually assauted in Manchester.
The six-year-old was taken into woodlands near a railway track in the Tameside area on Wednesday, investigators believe.
Officers arrested Lewis Jones on Thursday and he has now been formally charged.
The 23-year-old, who is from Liverpool, faces two counts of sexual assault by penetration and one count of abduction.
He has been remanded in custody and will attend Manchester and Salford Magistrates court later today.
Specially trained officers are working with the victim and her family following the shocking incident.
The girl made her own way back to the road and found her family after the attack.
Greater Manchester Police have previously praised her ‘immense bravery’ in helping with their investigation.
