Tesco cancels all home deliveries after suffering major ‘technical difficulties’
Tesco has axed all home delivery orders from 1pm onwards on Friday due to ‘technical issues’.
Shoppers phoning for updates on their orders were answered with an automated message saying: ‘Due to technical issues we’ve had to call all orders after 1pm.
‘If your order was due after 1pm you have not been charged. We’re unable to reschedule these orders.’
Customers were told to place a new order on the website.
Metro.co.uk understands Click & Collect orders have also been scrapped.
Social media was awash with furious shoppers complaining they’d waited at home for hours for their groceries.
It appears none were contacted about the situation, though a warning message appeared on the Tesco app order page.
Some customers claimed to have been charged even though their order was cancelled.
Gillian Grigor tweeted: ‘Last week had to stay in all day with an estimated delay of 7 hours.
‘No option to cancel. It came just over 4 hours late. Todays slot was 2-3pm and no sign of it.’
A user named Letrev added: ‘Absolutely disgusted to find out just now you have cancelled my food order for tonight, it’s my daughters birthday tomorrow and we’re stuck at home ill with Covid and now no food for her birthday.
A Twitter user named only as Emma wrote: ‘Just turned up for my click and collect and told its unavailable!
‘When it was working for other customers this morning. No email warning or prior notice. Absolutely terrible customer service!’
Tesco allows people to have their orders delivered to their home or a nearby collection point, and are allocated one-hour slots to minimise disruption to their schedules.
The supermarket chain has yet to officially comment on the chaos, although its customer service agents told one complaining customer it was due to a ‘system issue’.
