An entertainer is warning JustEat customers after being charged £249 delivery for an £11 order from Greggs.

Boy George impersonator Liam Halewood suspected a ‘glitch’ in the system when he received the eye-watering bill.

He’s now urging people who’ve ordered food off the JustEat app to double check their bank accounts in case they’ve been overcharged without realising.

Liam, 36, shared his receipt on social media, showing he’d ordered a sausage, cheese and bean melt; Walkers cheese and onion crisps; a four-pack of cookies.

He also asked for a meal deal consisting of a ham and cheese baguette, southern fried potato wedges and a Coca-Cola Zero.

It came to £11.80, plus a 0.59p tip, but Liam didn’t bank on such a pricey delivery fee.

‘I ordered the food and then it got taken out of my bank showing £249 for the delivery,’ he told the Liverpool Echo.

The singer says he’s heard a lot of other people were saying the same thing has been happening to them too.

He added: ‘One said it was costing them £900 and another said it was going to cost them £399 for the delivery charges.

‘I think JustEat has had a glitch in its system, which to be honest for a big company it shouldn’t happen really.

‘If someone didn’t check their statement and that money got taken out they say you only have like 24 hours to rectify any order that you have made.’

The singer, who currently lives in Blackpool but is from Liverpool’s Allerton neighbourhood, said JustEat has refunded him, paid for his meal, and given him £5 off his next order.

‘Some older people who don’t really know how to use the internet might have just let that go but because I pulled mine up it got rectified dead quick,’ said Liam.

Despite the ordeal, he hasn’t been put off from using JustEat in the future. He said: ‘This kind of thing has made me realise that you should check every time you’re ordering and make sure they’re charging the correct delivery fee.’

A JustEat spokesperson said: ‘We’re aware of an issue on our platform today that briefly affected the price of delivery orders for a very small percentage of our customers.

‘This issue is now completely resolved and we are in the process of offering a full refund for all customers affected.’
