Report: Serie A club could accelerate move for Spurs youngster following injury

Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that AC Milan could accelerate their pursuit of Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr after an injury to Sandro Tonali this weekend. 

Antonio Conte and his coaching staff have got their first look at Sarr during pre-season, with the midfielder featuring in all of the club’s friendlies over the summer.

However, the 19-year-old was not part of Tottenham’s matchday squad for their 4-1 win over Southampton in their Premier League season opener on Saturday.

Corriere della Sera reported last week that Milan wish to sign Sarr on a loan deal this summer but suggested Tottenham were only willing to sell the midfielder permanently for a fee of around €30m (£25.1m).

Gazzetta have now claimed that after midfielder Sandro Tonali suffered an injury in Milan’s pre-season friendly against Vicenza, the Serie A giants could accelerate a move for the Spurs star.

It is explained that Rossoneri are yet to ascertain how long Tonali is going to be out for and wish to bolster their midfield ranks before the new campaign gets underway.

The report asserts that Sarr remains Milan’s number one priority but FC Midtjylland’s Raphael Onyedika and Bordeaux’s Jean Onana are said to be the two other alternatives that Stefano Pioli’s side have their eye on.

I find it hard to believe that Spurs would be open to selling Sarr, given that he is only 19 years of age and still has plenty of time to develop into a top player. 

I suspect Spurs would prefer to loan the teenager out this summer but the club would want to send the midfielder to a team where he would be guaranteed game time, which might not be the case at Milan.
