Video Premiere: In Aphelion – “Sorrow, Fire and Hate”

We hope you’re all enjoying the first full summer of live metal shows since 2019. Since normalcy has mostly returned to the concert setting worldwide, it should follow that bands will be making live videos—real ones with actual enthusiastic crowds, in sweaty clubs. Swedish black metal trio In Aphelion, featuring Necrophobic members Sebastian Ramstedt (vocals/lead guitars/bass) and Johan Bergebäck (rhythm guitars) alongside Marco Prij (drums), have done just that, with a track from their full-length debut, Moribund, released in March this year via Edged Circle Productions.

The new video we’re premiering here for “Sorrow, Fire and Hate,” features the track as it appears on Moribund, but the accompanying visuals are raw, sepia-toned footage shot at a packed club. It features fast cuts from many angles that compliment the song’s thrashy punch of melodic black metal. So, you know, even if you aren’t hitting the clubs this summer—or you won’t have the opportunity to see In Aphelion live in person—this is a great alternative. “The video for ‘Sorrow, Fire and Hate’ celebrates the manifestation of In Aphelion as a live act, the metamorphosis of a band as recording artists reborn and united with the audience. It’s just like the lyrics to the song, about crossing the rivers of the underworld to wander into the unknown and unite with eternity. The video was filmed by our close friends in the Swedish black metal scene, the ones that have kept the scene alive during decades, the ones immune against trends. What was captured at our debut gig could never be made with a script and professional equipment. The purity of the raw footage was just right for this video.”
