Mets manager Buck Showalter announced that Jacob deGrom will be with them this Sunday to get in a “work day” and that the two-time Cy Young winner will make at least one more rehab start.
Showalter also noted that rehabbing reliever Trevor May will be with the team on Sunday too for the work day. May tossed one inning in the same sim game that deGrom struck out 10 of 13 batters on Thursday night. May’s fastball was up to 96 mph in the sim game.
In other pitcher injury updates, Tylor Megill is about to play catch on back-to-back days for the first time in his rehab.
Lastly, Taijuan Walker said everything checked out fine with his knee and shoulder during the break and he will start on Tuesday against the Yankees.

New York Mets’ starter Jacob deGrom “felt good” Thursday night after concluding his four innings of work in a simulated start in Port St. Lucie, Florida at Clover Park. This coming after he was originally scheduled to throw Tuesday, but the start was pushed back to Thursday due to some slight muscle soreness.
Michael Marino initially reported the news that deGrom’s start had gone without issue. He tweeted, “Jacob deGrom pitched over four innings today, facing 13 batters. He struck out 10 of them.” He then added that a Mets’ source said, “he looks like Jake.”
It is still unclear what the next step is for deGrom, but the Mets have to be happy that he was able to get up and down for over four innings and extend to 60 pitches. The rehab numbers for deGrom have been outstanding so far. Not counting tonight’s sim game, deGrom has thrown 8 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and striking out 15. The fastball has also been consistently in the 98-100 range. And his slider as deadly as it usually is, sitting in the 93-MPH range.
Tim Healey also reported that deGrom “felt good” after his start Thursday night. Mike Puma also tweeted that the Mets are, “encouraged by how upbeat deGrom sounded after his outing.” So, early signs appear extremely encouraging for the two-time Cy Young winning pitcher.
The next step is ultimately to be determined. Will it be one more rehab start? Or perhaps he returns to action with the Mets sometime against the New York Yankees? Regardless, the sooner deGrom returns, as is extremely apparent, the better for the club. With the addition of deGrom, New York will add the best starting pitcher in baseball to an already formidable group.
