Report: Leicester may have to listen to offers for likes of Spurs-linked Maddison
According to The Telegraph, Leicester City’s need to sell players before they buy could force them into considering offers for prized assets such as alleged Tottenham target James Maddison.
Although Spurs are now reportedly focusing on outgoing transfers, the club is said to be remaining in the market for a creative midfield option (Evening Standard).
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported in June that Maddison was on the North London club’s radar, and has been for some time. Paul O’Keefe has also credited Spurs with a strong interest in the Leicester playmaker.
The 25-year-old was the bright spark in what turned out to be a lacklustre 2021/22 season for the Foxes, scoring 12 goals and adding eight assists in 35 Premier League appearances (TransferMarkt).
It now looks as though the former Premier League champions could be forced to part ways with a number of first-team regulars in order to free up funds to freshen their squad.
The Telegraph claim that debt and an unsustainable wage-to-turnover ratio has caused this situation.
With Youri Tielemans, Boubakary Soumare, and Jannik Vestergaard all actively seeking new clubs, The Telegraph report that players who usually would not be considered for sale such as Kelechi Iheanacho, Timothy Castagne, and Maddison are all no longer guaranteed to remain at the King Power Stadium.
The report claims: ‘It has now opened up the prospect of Leicester having to consider offers for players they would ordinarily want to keep, such as James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho and Castagne.’

If the financial situation at Leicester is as desperate as reported and the interest in Maddison is genuine, I would be shocked if Daniel Levy didn’t test the waters in the coming weeks by lodging a bid.
I would be delighted if Spurs managed to bring in the former Norwich City man. He possesses a tremendous passing range and has the set-piece prowess which could add a different dimension to Conte’s attacking options.
