Moussa Sissoko makes Pochettino and silverware claim when reflecting on Spurs career
Moussa Sissoko believes he learned the most under Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham and feels the club was not far away from winning trophies at the time.
Spending five years at Spurs, Sissoko embarked on an up and down journey in North London upon joining the club from Newcastle in 2016.
The midfielder initially struggled to work his way into the side – which was managed by Pochettino – but eventually did enough to convince the Argentine coach to trust him.
Now at French side Nantes after suffering relegation from the Premier League with Watford last season, Sissoko has opened up on his time at Spurs one year on from his departure.
While hailing Pochettino for helping him from both a physical and mental standpoint, Sissoko also insisted the Spurs side he was a part of was more than capable of winning silverware, despite not being able to end their barren run.
He told L’Equipe: “He [Pochettino] is the manager I learned the most from on a technical, tactical, even mental level and the one under whom I improved the most.
“I arrived in a team that was performing well and played a less attacking role than the one I played at Newcastle. I didn’t have a starting spot from the beginning, but he persevered with me.
“We didn’t lack much to win titles, we had the team to win them. We still experienced great moments, notably the run to the Champions League final in 2019.”

Tottenham did have an excellent group of players during the Pochettino era but they just couldn’t get themselves over the line when they needed to.
It is a shame to see that specific group come away empty-handed especially the Premier League run they put together in 2016, as well as the way the Champions League final turned out.
