Puerto Rico defeated Italy, 7-0, in five innings to advance to the fifth-place game. Carsyn Gordon blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning to score the first run of the game and lead her team to the victory.
In the bottom of the second, Puerto Rico exploded with five runs, highlighted by a 2-RBI single by Jenna Cozza and an RBI single by Karla Claudio. Both of them tallied two hits in the game.
Italy’s Ilaria Cacciamani was the loser after pitchin 1.2 innings with 4 hits, 6 runs and 3 walks. The winner of the game was Aleshia Ocasio, who struck out 2 in three innings of action.
Tomorrow, Puerto Rico and Canada will play at 1 p.m. for the fifth place in the final standings, while Italy and Mexico will battle for the seventh place.
