Man Utd hilariously given trophy which lights up after beating Liverpool in pre-season friendly as players look baffled
MANCHESTER UNITED were dazzling on the pitch and dazzled off it as their sheepish stars picked up a FLASHING trophy for beating Liverpool.
Erik ten Hag‘s neon-Red Devils flickered into life in his first match in charge to blitz Jurgen Klopp’s mix-and-match men 4-0 in a Bangkok friendly.
But the highlight in front of 50,248 fans came later when United were handed a glowing red and white vase in a ticker-tape ceremony.
The futuristic silverware divided opinion on social media – especially for just for a pre-season match.
But although all that glitters this early is not gold, Ten Hag will be content with a solid display, led by Jadon Sancho‘s electric performance.
United opened their tour of Thailand and Australia in style as Sancho, Fred and Anthony Martial netted inside 30 minutes at the Rajamangla National Stadium.

But Facundo Pellistri rounded off a neat move and United’s victory on 77 minutes.
Klopp made mass changes on the half-hour and 60-minute marks.
But even though Ten Hag made ten substitutions at half-time, United retained their well-organised look.

It all supported the view of left-back Luke Shaw, who suggested the Red Devils’ new Dutch boss has given United long-absent ‘structure’ .
The England star said: “It’s clear that he’s a top, top manager.
“He has a structure to play the way he wants us to play.
“We haven’t had that for quite a while, and it was clear to see last season, which was extremely disappointing.
“We’re really looking forward to this season because I know it’s going to be much better than the last one.”
