MLB Futures All-Star Game features former U-12, U-18 Baseball World Cup stars
The Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, 19 July, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
The All-Star Week also includes the Futures All-Star Game, scheduled for Saturday, 16 July, at 4 pm local time at Dodgers Stadium.
The rosters feature some of the brightest prospects in baseball, including the top two selections in last summer’s MLB Draft – Pittsburgh’s Henry Davis (first overall pick) and Texas’ Jack Leiter (second overall).
WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2019 All-World Team outfielders Pete Crow-Armstrong and Robert Hassell will play for the National League, along with World Cup teammate Kyle Harrison. Nick Pratto, MVP of the 2015 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, and 2013 WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup champ and 2016 U-15 Baseball World Cup bronze medalist Anthony Volpe will help patrol the infield for the National League futures team.
The two squads also combine for 17 players born outside the US, highlighting baseball's growing global footprint. There are six players from the Dominican Republic, followed by five from Venezuela, three from Cuba, and one each from Australia, Canada and Curaçao.
All-Star, World Series-winning catcher and manager and Tokyo 2020 silver medal-winning manager Mike Scioscia will lead the National League.
Former All-Star shortstop and World Series winner Jimmy Rollins will manage the American League.
Four Minor League Baseball (MiLB) Umpires will work the All-Star Futures Game: Hardlen Acosta (Eastern League), Trevor Dannegger (Texas League), James Jean (Southern League) and Dexter Kelley (Southern League).
The 2022 MLB Draft will open on Sunday, 17 July.
