It comes as families were looking forward to colling down during the hottest day of the year as temperatures rose to 33C, with an extreme heat health warning being in place across the country.

The free splash park is popular not only because of its convenient location but because it also features a playground and lake with pedalos, a skate park, and table tennis tables, Birmingham Live reports.

A post on the park’s Facebook page read: “The Arboretum Splash Pad is currently closed for essential repairs.

“Our engineers will have the Splash Pad back up and running as soon as possible, please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.

“Apologies for the disappointment this might cause our younger audience!”

Frustrated parents were quick to share their disappointment with one saying: “As soon as I got there yesterday it broke. Yet the staff were sitting about eating crisps, put a sign up. Rubbish.”

Another one said: “Really missing the splash pad, wasnt working when i took the grandchildren friday, disappointed”

Someone wrote: “Sorry we not open when it’s hot and sunny just when it rains and its cold”.

The park’s closure comes amid the country’s heatwave which is predicted to continue into the week, with the mercury set to soar above 30C.

Brits have been urged to look out for the most vulnerable this week.

An amber level three alert has been activated which means that temperatures are likely to have a high impact on public life.

The Met Office said children, older people, babies and those with underlying health conditions must be extra careful.

Parents have been warned to keep children safe in the scorching sun and stop them from undertaking “vigorous physical activity.”
