Tributes paid as former Partick Thistle and Ross County midfielder Adam Strachan dies aged 35
TRIBUTES are being paid to the former Partick Thistle and Ross County star Adam Strachan, who has passed away at the age of 35.
Strachan, a midfielder, burst onto the scene as a 16-year old with Partick in 2004 and made his SPL debut against Dundee in April that year.
After almost four years in the Thistle first team and over 70 league appearances, Strachan moved to Ross County in January 2008.
Strachan also made a big impact in Dingwall, playing an integral role in the club’s rise through the divisions.
After his Ross County departure, Strachan played for several clubs in Scotland’s lower divisions.
He featured for Dumbarton, Albion Rovers, Clyde, Stenhousemuir and Arbroath before moving to junior football.
Strachan had two spells at Clydebank, as well as turning out for Irvine Meadow XI and Glenafton Athletic.
He spent three years at East Kilbride between 2015 and 2018 before moving to BSC Glasgow.
A horror ankle injury suffered during a game against Whitehill Welfare in October 2018 ultimately ended his playing career at that level.
A gifted and talented footballer, Strachan’s career was set back by legal issues away from the field.
As news of his passing began to come out, tributes were paid by his former clubs, team mates and friends alike.
Partick Thistle posted a tribute, saying: “Everyone at Partick Thistle Football Club is greatly saddened to learn of the passing of our former player, Adam Strachan, at the age of 35.
“The thoughts of everyone connected with Partick Thistle FC are with Adam and his family at this dreadfully sad time.”
Gerry Britton, who was the Thistle manager who gave Strachan his first team bow, added: “It really is horrendous news and first and foremost our thoughts are with Adam’s family and those closest to him.
“He was one hell of a talent. Man of the match in his debut in the Premiership, Adam was able to run with the ball under control quicker than the rest of the players could run without it.
“It is of course sad and frustrating that he was unable to achieve his full footballing potential but other stories are for another time. Rest in peace, Adam, you were one of a kind.”
Ross County said: “Ross County are said to learn of the passing of former player Adam Strachan.
“Adam spent two seasons in Dingwall making over 50 appearances.
“Our thoughts are with Adam’s family, friends and loved ones at this time.”
Open Goal Broomhill, the current name of Strachan’s final senior club BSC Glasgow, said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player, Adam Strachan.
“Our thoughts are with Adam’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Irvine Meadow said: “Irvine Meadow are very saddened to hear of the passing of ex-player Adam Strachan at only 35 years of age.
“Thoughts go out to all his friends and family at this difficult team.”
Former Falkirk defender Tam Scobbie said: “Guy had massive talent but an even bigger, infectious personality.
“Thoughts and prayers go out to Adam’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Sean Winter, who was a team-mate of Strachan’s at East Kilbride also paid tribute.
He said: “Can’t believe the news I’m hearing about Adam Strachan. Absolutely gutted at this.
“The guy was seriously misunderstood and one of the best players i ever played with.”
