Gretchen Whitmer Celebrates Abortion, Calls Killing 63 Million Babies in Abortions a “Great Legacy”

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer claimed aborting unborn babies is part of her state’s “great legacy” in an interview this week with CNBC.

The Democrat governor is fighting in court to keep abortions legal in Michigan after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24. Michigan has a pre-Roe abortion ban that protects unborn babies, but Whitmer and pro-abortion groups are challenging the law in court and a judge with ties to Planned Parenthood recently blocked it.

Speaking with CNBC, Whitmer asserted that keeping abortion on demand legal will make Michigan a more attractive place to live and do business.

“Right now, abortion remains legal and safe because we have an injunction on that 1931 [pro-life] law, but it’s precarious,” Whitmer said.

“I would love to be able to pitch Michigan as a place where every person has full civil rights, full bodily autonomy and the ability to make a good quality of life here in Michigan,” she continued. “It’s a great part of our legacy, and it’s got to be part of our future.”

However, when the CNBC host asked the governor if she has heard from businesses saying they will leave Michigan if it bans abortions, Whitmer admitted that she has not.

Michigan has a 1931 abortion ban that should have gone back into effect after the Supreme Court overturned Roe. If enforced, the law would save nearly 30,000 unborn babies from abortion every year.

However, a state judge who donates to Planned Parenthood recently blocked enforcement of the law, saying it “likely violates the state constitution,” Townhall reports. As a result, Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities still are aborting unborn babies in the state, according to Bridge Michigan.

Michigan has a pro-life Republican legislature, but pro-abortion Democrats hold the offices of governor and attorney general.

Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe13 states have banned abortions and more are expected to do so in the weeks ahead.

For nearly 50 years, Roe forced states to legalize the killing of unborn babies for any reason up to viability and allowed states to legalize abortions without limits up to birth. The ruling made the United States one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks. As a result, more than 63 million unborn babies have been aborted.

Now, states are allowed to make their own laws regarding abortion again, and Guttmacher Institute researchers estimate as many as 26 will protect unborn babies by banning or strictly limiting abortions. These laws are expected to save hundreds of thousands of unborn babies from abortion every year.
