OVER 50,000 people turned up to Croke Park to watch the All-Ireland quarter-final between Dublin and Cork.
And one attendee attracted particular reaction from supporters, much to the person’s amusement.
That person was Roy Keane, who made the trip to Dublin to watch his native Cork seek to upset the odds by dumping out the Blues.
It did not go well, as the Dubs advanced to the semi-finals for the 13th time in-a-row with a straightforward, 11-point win over the Rebels.
One 47 minutes, after Brian Fenton had put the ball over the bar, the camera cut to Keane in the stands.
On cue, the Capital contingent BOOED the Republic of Ireland and Man Utd legend.
He clearly saw the funny side, as he could be seen laughing, evidently amused at the, well, polarised response.
Fans on social media were quick to make light of his appearance.
One user joked: “Roy Keane cheering on Cork even though it meant missing Harry Maguire [sic] wedding”
Another said: “Roy Keane should have given half time pep talk in Cork dressing room !!!”
Another pondered: “Roy Keane must have a horrible time watching any sort of football these days”
Keane was in Pairc Ui Rinn for the Munster semi-final between Kerry and Cork earlier in the year.
Perhaps indicating that he is something of a bad luck charm, the Rebels also lost that game.
At least the reception was friendlier considering he was amongst a largely Cork-centric crowd.
Furthering the possibility that he is a jinx, he was also spotted at Turner’s Cross during Cork City’s First Division clash with Galway Utd back in March.
One lucky fan, Cian, snagged a classically gruff selfie with the man himself.
He captioned it: “I met My idol Roy Keane at Turner’s Cross!”
Similarly, Cork-based sports journalist Dylan tweeted: “Great to spot Roy Keane at Turner’s Cross this evening.
“Say what you want, the man is as local as it gets. Never forgot where he came from.”
Unfortunately, City were unlikely to have brought a smile to the Man United legend’s face as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Galway .
