Ryan Kent & the SEVEN other big-name Rangers stars who could sign pre-contracts in January and leave for nothing

THERE’S many Rangers players entering the final year of their contracts.

And that means the club risk losing their top stars without receiving a fee, unless they can persuade them to sign a new deal.

The out-of-contract Gers can agree a pre-contract arrangement with their new club in January, which would see them leave Ibrox at the end of next year’s campaign.

Rangers are no strangers to using the Bosman ruling to ADD to their squad, as they clinched summer signing John Souttar on a free after agreeing a deal at the beginning of the year while he was still contracted with Hearts.

Clubs sometimes pay a transfer fee to sign their target in the earlier transfer window instead of waiting six months.

But the club will receive nothing if they don’t part ways with their player in January.

Here SunSport takes a look at eight first-team stars who may be on their way out of Ibrox after next season and could agree a pre-contract switch at the start of the new year.

Ryan Jack

The former Aberdeen man has established himself as a key player for the Europa League finalists, despite struggling with injuries.

Jack is considered an Ibrox mainstay who would start most, if not every game, if he was fit.

Jack joined from the Dons in 2017 on a three-year deal and he signed a further two-year extension to keep him at Glasgow until 2023.

It seems unlikely the 30-year-old would want to move on from Rangers and could see out his career at the club.

But anything can happen and he may be tempted to agree a pre-contract switch in January should the right offer come in.

Ryan Kent

The 25-year-old would be a huge loss to Giovanni van Bronckhorst‘s side should he move on.

The winger was a star performer in their Euro run to Seville last season and has been tipped with a move to the Premier League since.

He became the Gers’ second most expensive signing ever when he joined permanently from Liverpool for £7m on a four-year deal in 2018.

And with just a year left on his contract, Rangers will hope they can either sign him up on a long-term deal or move him on this summer to prevent them losing cash for one of their biggest assets.

Alfredo Morelos

Morelos is always linked with a transfer out of Ibrox.

But this summer especially, because much like Kent, Rangers will want to make money back on one of their star men.

He will be looking to make a huge impact in next year’s campaign after missing the crucial end to last season through injury.

This is the chance for the Colombian to prove himself worthy of a big transfer and he may agree a move away from Ibrox if he fails to sign a new Gers contract.

Joe Aribo

Aribo will always be remembered as the man who gave the Blues fans hope in Seville after scoring the opener against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final.

The Nigerian dropped a hint over his Rangers future as he admitted he can’t wait to “write a good story” with the club next season.

That could be him declaring his love for the side and teasing a new long-term deal.

But he may also just want to go out on a high as he enters the final year of his contract.

Time will tell if the 25-year-old sees a future at Ibrox or if he wants to try his luck elsewhere beyond next season.

Filip Helander

The Swedish defender is another player who severely struggled with injuries last season.

Helander only managed six appearances during the campaign and will hope he can make a bigger impact next season.

There has been no update regarding his Ibrox future, with his deal also coming to an end next summer.

But he may need to stay at Rangers for at least another year if he wants to establish himself in the starting lineup before moving on.

Allan McGregor

The 40-year-old club legend recently signed a one-year extension after long talks over his future.

Many believed he would end his Rangers stint this summer and retire or potentially make a big money Middle East switch to finish off his career.

He will stay another year, but he may be another to agree a pre-contract move in January if he does have his eyes set on one final payday away from Scotland.

Scott Arfield

Arfield is another one of the three players who signed a one-year extension at the club.

He agreed to stay at Ibrox for another season in May.

And it could very well be his last campaign for the Gers as he dropped out of favour last year.

He’s still a reliable player, but doesn’t feature nearly as much as previous seasons.

Now the 33-year-old may also want to finish up after next season and could leave the club without them receiving a fee for his services.

Steven Davis

And the final player on this list is Rangers legend Davis.

The most-capped Brit of all time signed onto what could be his final year just like McGregor and Arfield.

The 37-year-old doesn’t look like giving up anytime soon but he may want to move on from Ibrox next year as it’s unlikely he will still be a starting player in the side in two seasons time.

Other players who are also entering their final year include Robby McCrorie who has been heavily linked with a transfer away from the club, with Manchester United even interested.

Youngsters Ben Williamson and Stephen Kelly may also agree a pre-contract switch elsewhere.

While out-of-favour Jake Hastie and Glenn Middleton join the list as well and may finally seal a permanent move away from Ibrox.
