Legendary classic rock acts set to appear in East Bay
Music fans are in for a great evening of classic rock when Chicago and Brian Wilson bring their co-headlining tour to the Concord Pavilion on June 11.
Chicago — which formed in its namesake city in 1967 — ranks among the best-selling groups of all time, having moved more than 100 million albums during its career.
The band has also had a ton of memorable singles, the best of which include “25 or 6 to 4,” ” Saturday in the Park,” “Beginnings,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” and “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day.”
You can probably tell by that list that we tend to like Chicago’s late ’60s and early ’70s jazz-prog-rock material better than what came later. Although, we do enjoy a few of the pop-rock numbers of the late ’70s, — especially “Baby What a Big Surprise.”
An even bigger draw for us is the chance to see Wilson, who, as the main creative force of the Beach Boys, was able to fashion one of the most impressive songbooks in popular music history. The (very) short list of all-time-great Beach Boys tunes includes “California Girls,” “Be True to Your School, “Surfer Girl,” “Help Me, Rhonda,” “God Only Knows” and “Fun, Fun, Fun.”
And, really, we could go on and on.
Wilson will be accompanied in concert by fellow Beach Boys co-founder Al Jardine as well as Blondie Chaplin, who also was a member of the Beach Boys for a few years in the early ’70s.
